The Wallace C. Dayton Conservation and Wildlife Area

Sandhill Crane by Stephen MaxsonFeatures: 12,600 acres of aspen parkland habitat are preserved within the Wallace C. Dayton Conservation and Wildlife Area, owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy (TNC). This site has been designated by TNC as a “last great place,” and is an intact remnant of a vast dynamic landscape. Moose, elk, wolves and bear can be seen here.

Best Times to Visit: April through October.

Birds To Look For: Sharp-tailed Grouse; Yellow Rail; Sandhill Crane; Marbled Godwits and Wilson’s Phalarope.

Notes For Birding The Area: The vast area can be best explored on foot.
